May 25-28, 2012
Darren and I started the Saturday before the race at the Indy Car Ministry Breakfast. Several of the drivers and owners came to speak about their experiences in the world of Indy car racing.
After breakfast we headed to the drivers autograph session and I was lucky enough to get a picture with Tony Kanaan. He is a fan favorite and the first Indy car driver I liked to follow.
This is Dario Franchitti. I missed a picture with him by minutes. It would have been great considering he won the race this year...third time winner!
We got to spend some time in Gasoline Alley. This is where the garages are located. You can get a close look at the teams as they get the cars ready for the big race.
This is Will Power's crew working on his #12 Verizon car.
Darren loved checking out the old cars they raced in past 500's.
The highlight of our day was meeting up with our dear friends the Butler's. We have been "doing life" together in our life group. They moved back home to Ohio in April. It was only a two hour drive to Indy for them so they came to spend the weekend with us.
It was such a sweet weekend! We had a great time catching up! Leaving was hard but we know they will always be a part of our lives. We are already kicking around ideas for our next trip together.
Darren loves this picture so I had to post it. His passion for Indy car racing has rubbed off on me and this trip sealed the deal. There is nothing like those cars flying by you at 200 mph. It is kinda cool that I was wearing the 2012 Indy Car winner's jersey too!
We made some great memories this trip....fast cars, awesome friends and a new addiction for this couple. Where is the next race???
